Balance

Balance-is defined as a state of equilibrium or equipoise; equal distribution of weight, amount, etc. It can also be defined as something used to produce equilibrium; a counter-pose; mental steadiness or emotional stability; habit of calm behavior, judgment, etc.

It is a concept that we are reminded of every day. Are we balancing our work and home life? Are we balancing what we eat? Are we balancing how we react to our children? Do we have a balanced exercise regimen? Have we balanced the checkbook this month??? The list can go on and on. Balance is something we all strive for. Sometimes we accomplish it... sometimes we don’t. One of our goals at yogees is to encourage each of our little (and not so little) yogees, to take time for themselves. Even a child as young as 5 years old, for example, needs time to “check out" of the daily grind. Yoga and mindfulness allow for that time to "check in to check out" and it’s just one of the reasons why we believe yoga and mindfulness are so important. Adding just a little bit of yoga and mindfulness to your life can help you achieve balance. Introducing yoga and mindfulness into your daily routine does not necessarily mean doing 108 sun salutations every day (though how awesome would that be??!) or sitting in mindfulness meditation for 30 minutes at a time. It could simply mean resting in child’s pose for 2-3 minutes or laying in Savasana for 5 minutes. It could be sitting still and listening to the sounds around you for 10 breaths. It doesn’t have to look a certain way. It just has to be. That is how you achieve balance, or at least begin.

See you on your mat.
